Women in Business – How to Stand Out Online

A collaboration between Macroom E Enterprise Centre and AIB Macroom

AN event aimed at women in business and focusing on “how to stand out online” took place at the Castle Hotel Macroom on Thursday 18th May last. This was the second such collaborative event, hosted by Macroom E Enterprise Centre and AIB Bank Macroom.

Almost sixty women attended the event and heard from a line-up of guest speakers: Róisin Glynn, Head of Social Media, AIB Ireland; Moira O’Brien, Lee Valley Speakers & MOB Media and Orla Kelly, Orla Kelly Publishing on the themes of developing your online brand, improving your pitch and optimising social media for results.

Anne Marie McMahon of AIB Bank Macroom opened proceedings before handing over to Róisin, who gave her top tips on how to reach and engage with your audience through social media. She offered a valuable insight into how AIB has used various channels over the past number of years to communicate their message and increase brand awareness.

Next, Moira O’Brien took to the stage to give a masterclass in The Elevator Pitch. Using her toastmasters and Lee Valley Speakers background, Moira offered suggestions on how to deliver a memorable, engaging and lively speech, presentation or quick introduction to yourself or your business.

After some delicious refreshments, courtesy of The Castle Hotel and McCarthy’s Fruit and Vegetables on the square, Orla Kelly of Orla Kelly Publishing told her story of taking the leap from the safe confines as an employee to writing a book to launching her own publishing business and how she has used digital to help reach her customers. Orla now helps others publish their books to sell online. Catherine Costello of Macroom E Enterprise Centre wrapped up the event and encouraged all in attendance to continue meeting and telling their stories.

This is the second such event – in November over fifty women attended an event entitled Can we be Happier at Work?, a collaborative attempt by Macroom E Enterprise Centre and AIB Macroom to bring the business women of Macroom together for a morning to learn how to up their happiness levels and achieve better work/life balance.
