On Friday 10th February last, a very pleasant function was held in the Munster Arms Hotel in Bandon, where 5 young people were honoured.
All of them had been nominated for the West Cork Garda Youth Awards (in association with SuperValu) 2016. A further 9 young people were also awarded Certificates, but were not in a position to attend the presentation ceremony.
Whilst they were not chosen as Award winners for the Awards Ceremony itself, An Garda Siochana and SuperValu felt that it was very important to highlight their nomination, and to recognise the excellent work that is being carried out by those nominated. It is not about the winning, but about applauding the contribution made to their community that is important.
On the day, Superintendent Liam Horgan of Bandon Garda Station presented the Certificates of Nomination, and Andrew Fallon, (store manager), of Caulfield’s SuperValu in Bandon represented the Awards sponsor SuperValu. Also present on the evening was Inspector Pat Meany of Bandon Garda Station, chairperson of the Judging Committee for the Youth Awards, and Catherine Coveney from Caulfield’s SuperValu.
The recipients were accompanied by their parents and family members, and those who were unable to attend will have their Certificate of Nomination delivered to them. Caulfield’s SuperValu also kindly supplied light refreshments and goodie bags for those present.
Those who received Certificates were:
Ayomide George, Kilbrogan, Bandon.
Cian O’ Donovan, Annaghbeg, Ballinhassig.
Lily Fitzgerald, Summercove, Kinsale.
Leah Ryan, Deerpark, Bandon.
Melissa O’ Regan, Harold’s Court, Enniskeane.
The following were unable to make the presentation, and will have their Certificates posted to them:
Tammy Sheehan, Distillery Road, Bandon.
Mary Robinson, Richmond Court, Bandon.
Darragh Ryan, Kilmore, Bandon.
Mushtaq Musa, Castledon Court, Bandon.
Jack Mahony, Dunmanway Road, Bandon.
Emily Hamilton Foot, Spring Lane, Bandon.
Charlie Lyons, Roselawn, Innishannon.
Kellie Keohane, Upper Connolly Street, Bandon.
Linda Collins, Ballinspittle.
Garda Damian White, Bandon Garda Station, PRO for the West Cork Garda Youth Awards (in association with SuperValu), thanked all those present for their efforts, and their attendance, and reflected that these Certificates will be a welcome addition to any CV.
All of the speakers also expressed their thanks to the Irish Examiner, who are proud media partners for this worthwhile community event. They recognised that this media partnership has led to an increased profile for the event, and has further enhanced its reputation.
