THE opening event of the Summer Programme in Christ Church, Glandore at 8pm on Friday July 14th is an evening of traditional music and sees the return of Jim Murray for the fifth year in a row. Jim is the acclaimed Irish guitarist who is Sharon Shannon’s “right hand man” having recorded and toured with her over five continents.
Appearing with him this year is Wexford-born banjo player Ciarán O’Connell who has been a feature of the vibrant Irish Traditional Music scene for many years as well as performing internationally in more than 20 countries. Now settled in Clonakilty, Ciarán is an intricate part of the West Cork music scene and is a resident musician in DeBarra’s famous Folk Club.
They will be joined on vocals by Jim O’Leary who has toured both nationally and internationally with a broad spectrum of musicians. Jim is also an accomplished Bodhran player using his native drum to add pulsing rhythms to jigs, reels and songs alike. Tickets cost €10
