THIS Halloween sees the second annual Scarecrow Festival in the picturesque village of Leap, West Cork and judging by the number of entries already this year looks set to be an even bigger success than last year’s inaugural event.
The competition to design the best scarecrow this year has been opened up to all-comers but scarecrows must be registered at the new post office in Leap by October 28th for inclusion in the competition.
With these impressive creations adorning virtually every available building along the main street the village has seen an influx of curious visitors coming to see the wonderful ghoulish creations entered into this year’s event.
Judging takes place on October 29th and there are a number of other events planned around the Halloween weekend including music and events at Connolly’s, The leap Inn and Shanahan’s with the results of the scarecrow competition due to be announced at the Halloween fancy dress party in the Harbour Bar on October 30th. The children’s disco will also be held again this year at Ger’s Atlantic Diner from 3pm also on the 30th.
The scarecrows will be burned at the Leap Inn yard on November 5th to mark the end of the festival.
