Anam Cara Cork, the organisation that supports bereaved parents, will host an event in Cork city on January 3rd and another in Bantry on January 9th.
The first will take place in the Clayton Hotel and the Bantry event in the Maritime Hotel.
Anam Cara provides bereaved parents with safe and comfortable forums where they can connect with other bereaved mothers and fathers who will understand the depth of their loss and grief.
One bereaved mother who attended an Anam Cara event earlier this year said: “it was so beneficial to listen to one of the dads talking. It was as if he could read our mind and just hit the nail on the head with so many issues. Also to see parents young and old, all having experienced the same grief; that was very beneficial.“
Anam Cara CEO Sharon Vard stressed that these events are open to all bereaved parents regardless of the age a child dies, the circumstances of the death or whether the death was recent or not.
For those considering attending but unsure, Ms Vard suggested they have a look at the website, anamcara.ie. “There, in their own time, parents can watch our short videos with testimonies from bereaved parents who have attended Anam Cara events. The videos, which are just four minutes each, show parents and couples interviewed on topics like A Dad’s Grief, Sudden and Traumatic Death, and The Grieving Family.”
A dad who attends Anam Cara said: “The solidarity experienced by being among people who are bound together by a common feeling of appalling loss is a great help. None of us wanted to be in this group nor would wish it on others but the feeling of understanding – which doesn’t need to be verbally expressed – is a support. We all understand.”
The meetings – open to bereaved parents only – will take place in the Clayton Hotel (Silver Springs) on Wednesday 3rd January and then in Bantry on the 9th.
Both events run from 7.30pm-9pm. For more information see anamcara.ie or ring their Information Line on 085 2888 888 to order a free copy of the Anam Cara Information Pack.
