Summer Songbook comes to Courtmacsherry

In the Year of the Gathering 2013, an enthusiastic group of choral music lovers started an initiative in the beautiful village of Courtmacsherry. Under the title “Summer Songbook” workshops were given in all facets of choral work and a wonderful series of weekend workshops was born.

5 years on Summer Songbook is still going strong and we will be celebrating our first Anniversary from Friday July 7th to Sunday July 9th. We have been blessed with amazing local tutors over the years incl. Marie O’ Dwyer, Courtmacsherry and Music Matters Galway; Joanne Walsh, well known Clonakilty soprano; Anne-Marie O’ Brien , director, producer extraordinaire of Butlerstown Variety Show; Sheila McCarthy of UCD Scholars fame and last but by no means least, our accompanist supreme Annabel Adams.

This coming July we are thrilled to welcome Marie and Joanne as tutors and Annabel as accompanist once again. Their choice of music is inspirational and a joy to sing and listen to. The participants are always blown away by the variety and range of the pieces. The power of music and choral singing is food for the mind and the soul and even though 3 days of workshops sounds like “tough” going, the relaxation times built into the schedule are very important as well.

The organising team of Ann O’ Donovan, Marian O’ Brien, Jane Murphy and Angela Veldman would like to thank all our loyal participants over the past years and look forward to welcoming both old and new participants again this year. We have enjoyed the most outstanding weekends and friendships forged during workshops have become very precious.

The weekend fee of 70 includes all workshops from Friday to Sunday. Also included is afternoon in the Golden Pheasant on Saturday and a barbecue in Courtmacsherry Hotel on Sunday. New this year is the chance to have individual classes with Joanne Walsh on Friday afternoon.

The weekend is brought to a fitting close on Sunday evening at 6pm with our annual Showcase Concert in Courtmacsherry Church. This has become a must see for all lovers of great singing. All the songs workshopped over the weekend will be heard with some fabulous solo singing and special guests.
