A NEW book published in Germany that looks at the incredible world of football finance has turned up some eye-watering statistics revealing what some of the world’s top players and agents are paid.
Among the massive transfers, appearance fees and goal bonuses however is one particular story with a local West Cork connection.
The book Football Leaks: The Dirty Business of Football by Der Spiegel journalists, Rafael Buschmann and Michael Wulzinger reveals that Manchester United record signing Paul Pogba had his image rights managed by a company in Clonakilty for a time before the enterprise was moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands.
While playing his last season with Italian giants Juventus, Pogba’s image rights were handled by a company called Blue Brands based in the West Cork town. One of the directors was Vincenzo Raiola, probably related to Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola who is reputed in the book to have netted a staggering €47 million from Pogba’s transfer from Juve to United.
