“Kilmeen NS win the Double”
Sciath na Scol Football Finals
The boys and girls of Kilmeen National School created history in Dunmanway, last Thursday. Both boys and girls teams were crowned Sciath na Scol football champions. Both teams played Ballingeary in their respective finals. The girls were comprehensive winners, the final score bring Kilmeen NS 4-5 Ballingeary 0-6. The boys had a much tougher final against Ballingeary. The final score was Kilmeen NS 2-8 Ballingeary 2-4. There were great scenes of jubilation following the completion of the “double”. This was a day that these youngsters will truly never forget. Well done to Kenneth McCarthy (principal) and everyone in Kilmeen NS.
Rossmore was the base for a “Super 10” U15 football blitz on Saturday. Kilmeen played Tadhg MacCarthaigh first. Kilmeen were much the stronger team in the first half. Cian Murphy and Cathal Dineen dominated around centre field. Jack Murphy and Ethan Jennings were strong in defence, while Brian Carmody, Darren McCarthy and Eoin O’Sullivan were solid in attack. Kieran O’Sullivan made some great saves in goal. Shane Reilly Paul Lyons and Mark Keohane supplied the forwards with some great ball. The Caheragh lads came into the game in the second half. The final score was Kilmeen 3-10 Tadhg MacCarthaigh 5-4.
Clann na Gael were the next opposition. Kilmeen dominated for much of this match, they were convincing winners. The final score was Kilmeen 1-8 Clann na Gael 0-6.

The U14 hurlers travelled to Kealkill to play St Colums on Thursday night. The Kilbree boys played a terrific game and were just beaten by a strong St Colums side. Well done to everyone involved.

The U12 footballers travelled to Adrigole on Monday last. In wet foggy conditions, they played a strong local side. The Kilmeen boys never gave up and played a great second half. Great work by Micheal Keohane in goal, Mark Collins and Jack Hehir in defence and Conor O’Sullivan in attack kept the Kilmeen boys in this game. While they did not win on the night, this young team learned much from this encounter.

St Oliver Plunketts U10’s travelled to Rossmore on Wednesday night. This was a most exciting well matched game. Great work in defence by Olan Murphy and Rory McCarthy kept the Ahiohill boys at bay. The Kilbree boys pulled away in the second half. Tadhg O’Neill Callanan was solid in goal. Some great work by Howard O’Donovan, Ruairi O’Sullivan, William Young and Jason Murray ensured that Kilbree dominated the scoring in the second half. Well done to all involved.

There was no winner of this week’s lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 13, 27 and 38. The lucky dip winners were Jimmy Lar O’Sullivan, Gary Coughlan and Hannah Keohane. Next week’s jackpot will be €3,500.
