“U16’s girls unlucky to lose out by a single point”.
Kilbree and Barryroe contested the U16 Carbery camogie final in Barryroe on Monday night, under lights. A very young Kilbree team gave an incredible performance from start to finish and were unlucky to lose out by a single point.
Barryroe started much stronger and scored four points without a reply. However, Kilbree were outstanding in the latter stages of the first half. Four Kilbree goals gave them the lead at half time. The half time score was Kilbree 4-2 Barryroe 0-7.
Two quick Barryroe goals early in the second half made this game a thrilling contest. A superb goal by Maeve O’Neill brought Kilbree back into the game with a fighting chance. Points by Caoimhe Murphy and Mairead Crowley brought Kilbree within a point of Barryroe. The final score in this thrilling contest was Barryroe 5-7 Kilbree 5-6.
Well done to everyone of this U16 panel. They have had a fantastic season and should be very proud of themselves, their hard work, dedication and teamwork.
Well done to the Kilbree U13’s who represented their club and division on Sunday, in an inter-divisional camogie blitz in Charleville. Mary Murphy, Margaret Collins, Heather Brimble, Caoimhe Murphy, Maeve O’Neill and Kate O’Donovan played exceptionally well for Carbery. The teams taking part in this well organised blitz included Carbery, Avondhu, Carrigdhoun, Aghabullogue and Seandun. The Carbery squad defeated Carrigdhoun, lost to Muskerry and defeated Avondhu in the Shield final. It was a most enjoyable day for all of the girls involved. Thanks to Deirdre O’Leary for co-ordinating the Carbery U13 squad. Thanks to the Carbery mentors/coaches.
Kilbree U16’s will play Ballinora in a county hurling semi-final this weekend. Please check locally for details.
