U14 Camogie Kilbree defeat Castlelyons in Cloughduv

Kilbree U14’s progress in county championship!

Kilbree U14 camogie girls progressed to the county quarter-final stage, having defeated Castlelyons on Monday night. The match was played under lights in Cloughduv. Kilbree had lost to Castlelyons twice this season on previous outings.

A great start by Kilbree made the difference. The Kilbree girls fought for every ball with great tenacity. Player of the match Maeve O’Neill made some great runs into the forward line and score 2-2 in the first half as a result. Caoimhe Murphy scored a goal from long range. Kilbree dominated for the first half and lead 3-4 to 1-3 at half time.

However, Castlelyons were a different side in the second half. Kilbree’s backs had to withstand many attacks and they did so in style. A Castlelyons goal in injury time almost put the victory in doubt. Kilbree showed great grit and determination to hold out. The final score was Kilbree 4-4 Castlelyons 3-6.

Brian Carmody made some fine saves in the first half and throughout the game. Scores by Thomas Tyner and Cian Murphy left Kilmeen five points adrift at half time.
