A GARDA investigation has been launched following the discovery of decomposed human remains at a rural location near Dunmanway.
The body of 70-year-old Declan Sloan is thought to have laid undiscovered for more than a week.
Mr Sloan is understood to have been English and had lived in the area for several years.
The house were he lived and where the body was discovered in the Gortnamuckla area is semi-derelict; he was found after locals became concerned when he had not been seen for several days.
Gardaí are understood not to be treating the death as suspicious; a post-mortem will be carried out at Cork University Hospital on Sunday and a technical examination will be carried out at the scene.
