West Cork Arts Centre is delighted to announce details of its comprehensive Autumn programme of classes and workshops for children, teenagers and adults.  There are many opportunities for taking on and trying out new interests and activities at the Arts Centre in Skibbereen.

 

Children from the ages of  7 to 11 years are invited to come along to the Drama Club on Tuesdays after school starting on 18 September. This will be a lively and enjoyable series of imaginative drama and puppetry workshops. The course will be delivered by actor, Alison Glennie and supported by WCAC Project Assistant.

 

Boys and girls aged 6 to 9 years are welcome to join WCAC’s Art Club on Thursday afternoons from 20 September and enjoy a creative

journey into visual art. WCAC Project Assistant will support a number of guest artists including Caoimhe Pendred, Rita Duffy, James

Hayes and Sonia Caldwell who will join the programme to share their ideas.

The Alan Foley Academy of Dance continues its long association with WCAC with another comprehensive programme of dance for children of all ages on Wednesdays.

The programme has diverse features including special pre-school ballet sessions especially for young children and for older children sessions are available in modern and jazz exploring choreography and high energy dance, hip-hop and also classical and contemporary ballet for all levels.

 

WCAC’s Youth Theatre comprises a series of active and social drama workshops each Monday where young people aged 13 to 17 years will explore role play, develop vocal and physical skills and participate in a group activity which is energetic and highly enjoyable. The autumn term is facilitated by Karen Minihan with support from WCAC Project Assistant.

Adults are invited to Explore Art from mid-September at WCAC with artist Ian Humphreys.  All levels of participants are catered for, although a little experience is beneficial. Arts for an Active Mind offers a relaxed and social approach to those aged over 55 years who are interested in exploring visual arts.  Facilitating artists Paul Cialis and Caoimhe Pendred take a combined approach of demonstration and practical application to explore visual art techniques and contemporary practices.

WCAC’s Primary Schools programme gives school groups and teachers the opportunity to explore a contemporary art exhibition and develop a project alongside professional artists, leading to the development of their own artwork for WCAC’s annual children’s exhibition.

This year’s programme will be based on the exhibition The Essence of taste…. by James L. Hayes and will be delivered by artists Alison Cronin and Tess Leak.  Teachers wishing to apply for a place on the 2012/13 programme should attend a meeting at the West Cork Education Centre, The Square, Dunmanway on Tuesday 18 September at 7.00pm. Those unable to attend but who still wish to be considered for the programme please send details of class, school and contact details to alison@westcorkartscentre.com
