THE “summer” weather has returned to West Cork with Met Éireann having issued both Gale and Small Craft warnings.

Southeast winds will reach gale force by this afternoon on coasts from Hook Head to Valentia to Slyne Head as the heavy rain continues.

It will be very wet and very windy all day, with widespread heavy and persistent rain developing during the afternoon.

Very windy too, with strong to near gale force east to southeast winds. Highs of 12 to 14 degrees.

Tonight (Thursday) it will remain wet and windy with further heavy falls of rain. Lows of 9 or 10 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty south to southeast winds.

The rain will continue into Friday, with further heavy falls expected.

Winds will be strong and gusty and from a south to southwest direction.

Spot flooding is also likely.

Road users are also being urged to take care with the gardaí advising drivers to take their time and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.

Pedestrians and cyclists are also urged to take extra care.
