TWO teenagers were rescued from a cave near Rosscarbery after midnight on Saturday night after they were reported missing just before 10pm.

The teenagers, Eoin Bourke and his girlfriend Alison O’Keeffe from Douglas in Cork city,  had been kayaking out of Rosscarbery but were not accounted for as darkness fell.

The Coastguard issued a call for assistance at 21:51 on Saturday night when they were reported missing from Rosscarbery.

The Irish Coast Guard deployed three units from Toe Head, Glandore and Castlefreke with Toe Head launching their Delta ILB.

The Coast Guard helicopter from Shannon was also in attendance.

The Baltimore Inshore Lifeboat and all-weather lifeboat Alan Massey were both launched to investigate and carried out an extensive coastal search.

At 00:30 on Sunday morning, August 5th after hours of searching shouts were heard from a cave near Millcove.

The two 17-year-old males were located by Coast Guard shore teams who in turn contacted the search vessels.

Baltimore Inshore Lifeboat Helm John Kearney investigated and a smaller Y boat was launched from the Alan Massey which ferried the boys individually from the cave and then onto the inshore lifeboat which landed the teenagers at Millcove.
