Top flight football returns to the Cross this year.

by Owen Thornhill

PRE-SEASON is well under way for Cork City FC who played Limerick FC in a friendly out in Bishopstown last Saturday.

The result was a 2-2 draw with Dan Murray and Shane O’Connor getting Cork City’s goals while City old boy Denis Behan, and Shane Tracy getting Limerick’s goals. Limerick will be a very strong Division One team and big favourites to win the division.

Cork won’t want to face Limerick in any of the cup competitions that’s for sure.

I do a sports show on www.starfmwestcork.com on Sunday evenings if you want to listen to my views there.

But tonight (Monday) there is a full series in the Setanta Cup, first round, with the St Pats v Cliftonville game on Setanta Ireland.

Cliftonville go into the 2nd leg with a 1-0 lead but I would expect St. Pats to either win the tie or at least push Cliftonville all the way.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) Cork City take on Munster Senior League outfit Rockmount in the quarter final of the Munster Senior Cup at Whitechurch with a 7.30pm kick off. Rockmount have a few former Cork City players and this won’t be an easy game for City, the winners will progress to play Waterford Utd in the semi final at the RSC.

Cork have one more friendly before the season starts playing SD Galway (Formerly known as Salthill Devon) at Turners Cross on Saturday evening with a 5pm kick off.

I will have reaction to that over the weekend.
