THE parents of murdered French filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier are to lodge a complaint against Ireland with the European Commission over the way the case has been handled here.

Lawyers for Georges and Marguerite Bouniol claim that an Irish Supreme Court ruling against the extradition of Ian Bailey to France for questioning was contrary to current EU legislation.

They are expected to ask the European Commission to refer the case to the European Court of Justice.

Mr Bailey who lives in Schull has always denied any involvement in the death of Ms du Plantier who was found dead near her holiday home in Toormoore in 1996.
