A MUCH loved local farmer has died as the result of a workplace accident in the Glandore area.

The deceased man, Willie Fortune (70) suffered fatal injuries when his tractor overturned while he was working in a steep cliffside field overlooking Glandore Harbour on Saturday evening.

He was discovered by his daughter Ruth and is understood to have been trapped under the vehicle for up to three hours.

The field where Mr Fortune was working was inaccessible by road ambulance and he was taken to Cork University Hospital by Coast Guard helicopter where he died on Sunday as a result of his injuries.

A native of Glandore, Mr Fortune was a part-time farmer whose family had run a small shop in the area for many years.

He is survived by his wife Maureen and his daughter Ruth.

A local resident told West Cork Times, “He was a lovely man and he will be much missed”.
