Kilmacabea’s U14 boys: David O’Connor, John-Patrick Sheahan, Eolan Dineen, Timmy O’Donovan. Coxed by Lisa Cronin.

WITH  just one week to go until the first championship regatta of the season, Rosscarbery Regatta last Sunday provided a stage for the rowers of Kilmacabea Rowing Club to impress ahead of next week’s all-important show down in Baltimore. The club was represented in every race as an impressively large contingent of rowers travelled the short distance to Ross lagoon to take advantage of the fine evening, which is far too rare of late.

First up the U12 and U12 beginners teams took part in their respective races and showed huge promise as the two very young crews finished just outside the medal positions, Eoin Burns, Jamie Ronan, Peter Collins, Marie Keating, Darragh Tobin, Adrian Gore and Mikey O’Mahony making up the Kilmac U12 teams.

The U14 ladies and U14 boys’ teams both put in great performances with the boys claiming silver and the girls crossing the line in fourth.

The teams there were made up by Rachel O’Callaghan, Kirsty Hayes, Niamh Burns, Shannon Ronan, David O’Connor, John-Patrick Sheahan, Eolan Dineen and Timmy O’Donovan.

At U16 level the club was again well represented with both the girls and boys teams finishing just outside the medals. U16 ladies were Abby Hourihan, Georgina Deane, Kellie Kregan and Victoria O’Brien with Euan Tobin, Shane Collins, Caelan O’Mahony and Ashley Deane taking part in the boy’s race.

At overage level the club didn’t perform too badly either with the ladies team of Lucy O’Brien, Mary O’Mahony, Georgina Deane and Katherine Deane barely losing out on a medal and the men’s team of Sean O’Donovan, Declan Whooley, Andrew O’Sullivan and Eoin Flavin taking bronze in their contest.

Finally it was the clubs U18 boys who provided the best showing for the club as Kieran O’Sullivan, Alex Nowotynski, Liam Thompson and Pat Calnan took gold in their race.

A big thank you and congratulations are due to the two coxes on the day, Lisa Cronin and Eoin Flavin, and a big well done goes out to all participants on the day. The club now looks forward to the first round of the SWCYRA championship on Sunday next, the 24th June in Baltimore.
