DETAILS for this year’s Castletownbere Festival of the Sea have been officially announced.

The festival runs from Friday, August 3rd to Thursday, August 9th this year and the committee are looking for volunteers to be stewards throughout the August Bank Holiday.

Among the highlights this year are fun and games in The Square and live music on the Friday night (August 3rd) including pint drinking while wheelbarrow racing, reverse egg, horse shoe throwing, sheaf throwing competitions.

On Saturday, August 4th food & craft fair in The Square, children’s fancy dress parade, bouncy castles, trampolines and climbing wall, live performance by Drum & Dance Ireland.

On Sunday, August 5th family fun day in The Square, bonny baby competition, best dressed dog, bicycle obstacle course, pedal go kart trials, open air ceili, live music and lots more.

On  Monday, August 6th there is the annual fishermen’s mass in the Auction Hall, followed by blessing of the boats, Castletownbere annual regatta, live music and more events.

The festival continues until Sunday, August 12th with events every day; the committee also ask for the public’s co-operation throughout the festival re no parking in The Square.
