TD Michael McCarthy welcomed the news.

€120,000 in capital funding has been awarded to a number of childcare facilites across West Cork.

The facilities approved for funding include Happy Days Montessori Pre-School, Bantry (€42,693); Naíonra Droichead na Bandan, Bandon (€24,330); Friends Forever Childcare, Castletownbere (€22,696); The Haven Montessori School, Bandon (€17, 499); K’s Pre-School, Enniskeane (€10,555); Tir na Spraoi, Skibbereen (€4,280); and Timoleague Community Playschool and Afterschool Club (€624).

Welcoming the funding, local Labour TD Michael McCarthy said, “This is a vital investment for a vital sector that was for too long sidelined by the previous administration.

“It underlines the Government’s dedication to the ongoing development of the childcare sector and to the overall improvement of child welfare in the State, as demonstrated by its commitment to hold a Children’s Referendum later this year.”The Dunmanway TD said the aim of the funding is to help local childcare facilities address remedial, maintenance or renovation work that may need to be carried out, and where necessary, to support the provision of equipment for early education and childcare services.

The West Cork parcel of funding is part of a broader national package of €6 million.

“I am glad there is a significant West Cork presence in the final allocations announced today and I look forward to observing the fruits of this valuable investment in our local childcare facilities when they take shape,” he added.
