THE third annual Daniel Kingston Memorial 5km will take place in Macroom on Thursday, June 21st next at 8PM.

Daniel, a native of Coolehane, Macroom passed away in February 2009 after a heroic battle against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of just 25.

Over the two years more than 700 people have taken part in the run and this year organisers are hoping to exceed that number.

The run has become such a success that it is now become a feature event on the running calendar across the province with runners coming from as far as Dingle and Waterford to take part.

Surplus funds raised from this event will go towards ARC Cancer support house; since Daniel’s passing €177,000 has been raised for ARC through various events run in his memory.

Registration is €5 for BHAA members and €8 for non BHAA members and will take place on the night between 6pm and 7:45pm in the Macroom Sports Complex and refreshments will be available at the complex afterwards.

The Macroom Sports Complex is also running a programme to help those who wish to prepare in earnest.
