EIGHT athletes from Bandon AC attended Athlone recently for the U12-U19 National Juvenile Indoor Championships having qualified from the Munster Championships in Nenagh three weeks earlier.
SAVE a date in your diary this May Bank Holiday for the Bandon half marathon, 10K and six mile walk. Now in its fourth year, the event continues to attract large numbers for the three individual events. It is again organised by two of Bandon’s premier sporting clubs, Bandon Rugby and Bandon Athletic Club for which it is a joint fundraiser.
The Mealagh Valley 10-Mile Race was held on 9th February near Bantry in West Cork and organised by Bantry AC. There were 77 finishers. This is a challenging 10-mile race and Tom Laffan, Bandon AC, ran well to finish 3rd in 1:03:05. Eddie Wilmot was 24th in 1:14:39 and Steve Young 51st in 1:27:19. CONGRATULATIONS to Rachael O`Shea of West Muskerry AC who won the Esther Enright Memorial Perpetual cup at a function in the Riverside Hotel, Macroom recently. She won the cup for her commitment to West Muskerry AC, to athletics and to training. She is a great role model for the athletes in the club.
1,600 athletes took to the start line for the very popular John Treacy Dungarvan 10 mile race on 26.1.14. Heavy rain, high winds, sleet, snow and a 15-minute delay did not make the first half enjoyable. However, the sun came out for the second half. On 18.01.14 a number of members from Bandon Athletic Club boarded a bus and travelled to Nenagh for the Munster Juvenile Indoor Combined Events Championships and Relays.
AT the Cork County Annual Awards night in the River Lee Hotel recently a number of Bandon Athletic Club members received awards. Receiving awards to commemorate an International appearance in 2013 were Roisin Howard who represented Ireland in Combined Events in Portugal in June. National Uneven Age Cross Country Championships The Woodies National Uneven Age Cross Country Championships took place on December 15th in conjunction with the Novice Championships at Waterford Institute of Technology. Waterford AC have to be commended for the excellent facilities, event organisation and the warm welcome provided. The competition to qualify for this national event is very hard to achieve and all athletes who competed should be very proud. Bandon
THE annual “Durrus 5″ mile road race / walk will take place this year on Saturday, the 14th of September at 2:30 p.m. The route will be the same as in 2012 starting and finishing on Church Road. The race has an Athletics Ireland Permit and the route has been accurately road measured.
