New traditional Irish music course for Cape Clear Island

IN 2014 Colaiste Phobal Chléire offers an exciting new week long traditional music for young musicians between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age. It is aimed at those who have already developed an interest and ability in traditional music and who would both enjoy and benefit from an intensive week of formal tuition, informal practice and group sessions. Bere Island Holy Week Retreat 2014

ONCE again, The Bere Island Heritage Centre is honoured to host the annual Holy Week Retreat led by Fr Laurence Freeman OSB.   From Sunday 13th to Sunday 20th April, The World Community for Christian Meditation will come together in harmony with our remote island community for a week of meditation, prayer, discussion and warmth.

Rose of Tralee set to visit Bere Island

THE 2013 Rose of Tralee, Haley O’Sullivan is set to visit her ancestral home of Bere Island, West Cork on Sunday 13th October 2013. This will be Haley’s first visit since being crowned the Rose.   Representing Texas, Haley won the prestigious competition in Tralee in August, becoming the 55th Rose of Tralee.

Renowned pianist David Syme in Cork and Bere Island

WEST Cork’s own David Syme, internationally-renowned pianist, will appear at the Triskel Christchurch in Cork on July 24th at 1pm and at the Lecture Theatre, Rerrin, Bere Island on August 2nd at 8pm.   The Bere Island date will be filmed for a profile on RTE television and a ferry will leave from the Pontoon, beside Berehaven Golf Club at 7pm and will return after the concert.

Rubicon Heritage will present the findings of their study on the archaeological history of Bere Island’s 19th & 20th century military fortifications on: Saturday 22nd June, 7pm at the Community Centre, Ballinakilla, Bere Island.
