The Coastguard helicopter was involved in the rescue.

A BODY was recovered from the sea off of the Beara Peninsula in the early hours of this morning following an extensive search by the emergency rescue services.

The man was identified locally as John O’Leary from Barness in Allihies, and his body was recovered off of Cod Head at approximately 1.30am.

Mr O’Leary who was in his 60s and originally from Boston, USA had been aboard a sailing dingy with his teenage son Christopher (18) when the vessel overturned.

The pair clung to the dingy for four hours in the water before his son  managed to swim to shore to raise the alarm.
