SETTING up and running a Football Club may have seemed like an impossible feat to many in Castletownbere and rightfully so when a couple of years back many of the local children had been left high and dry after a short lived effort at starting a club ended abruptly.

Enter into the picture Jason Tietjen who took the task to heart and  has been working behind the scenes for the last two years to pull the grass roots club off the ground.  Through his hard work, dedication and commitment the community now boasts a brand new sports club “The Beara United Football Club” and Jason has the determination  to make sure it succeeds well into the future.

Beara United Football Club was founded in February 2012.

Through the grapevine Jason had heard that a local Tom Dickinson was a football coach who had trained his own team in a Manchester Club and so the fateful connection was made and the club had it’s official coach.

There was no stopping them now!

Tom’s coaching quality is of a very high standard and the commitment and enthusiasm shown by him towards the lads is just great.

The club is grateful to Mary O’ Sullivan, Principal of the Beara Community School and Deckie Wiseman for providing them with the perfect venue; the pitch at the secondary school, where the club trains and hosts matches.

Currently U16 is the only team in the club.

The team is  playing Division 1 in the West Cork School Boy’s League who the club is grateful to be affiliated to.

Future plans will see the club expand and provide opportunities for children and youths of more age groups.

The U16 participants who have taken part so far all have one thing in common, they all love football and through that love of football they too have played hard and worked harder to raise much needed funds for the development of their club.

The U16 team consists of; Conor Power, Dyllan Nolan, Declan Dunne, Ruairi Mensink, Jordan Murphy, Dminic Tietjen, Mark Harrington, Jack O’Sullivan, David Torres, Reece Dillane, Oisin Millem, James Foley, Cormac  Carey, Gary O’Sullivan, James Harrington, Conor McQuaid, Danny O’Sullivan, Marty Byrne ( Club Captain),  Gavin Holland, Richard Murphy, Oscar Molloy, Georgo Saradakis and general dogsbody sam Tietjen.

Putting the finishing touches on the team came about through sponsorship of the Clubs kits by Johnny Power of Marine Harvest.

The jerseys are red and white representing the involvement of youth from all over Beara. The Clubs beautiful Crest was designed by local artist  Amber Broughton and sponsored by Larry Murphy.

Jason and Tom extended their thanks to Amber, the sponsors for their generous support, Niall Duffy photographer, and all those in the community who have donated funds and helped out in any way.

Locals donating funds at Murphy’s SuperValu over the weekend were thrilled to hear of this latest development, congratulating Jason and Tom and wishing them great success in their endeavour.
