All-Ireland champion Martin Coppinger

THE All-Ireland Road Bowling Championships were held in Dunmanway last weekend for the second year in succession and proved a great success with even the rain staying away for most of the weekend.

The event was held on the Derinsafa Road over two days, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July 2012 under the auspices of West Cork Regional Committee of Bol-Chumann na hEireann.

Local independent councillor Declan Hurley said, “I wish to pay special tribute to the West Cork Regional Committee for their success in securing the event for West Cork and it is very fitting to have the event in Dunmanway as the locality has produced many professional players of the sport who have had great success in the All-Ireland Championships in recent years”.

In the Senior Championship final held on Sunday, the strongly fancied favourite, Bantry’s Martin Coppinger took the title beating Conor McGuigan from Armagh in the last shot of the match.
