Bandon Mayor Gillian Coughlan.

A MOTION calling for the suspension of pay-parking in Bandon during on the on-going drainage works was passed at the monthly meeting of the Southern Area Roads Committee on Friday last.

Introduced by the Mayor of Bandon, Cllr Gillian Coughlan, the motion was passed following the support of Cllr Alan Coleman and Mayor of Kinsale Cllr Billy Lynch, despite the Fine Gael members Cllr Kevin Murphy and Cllr Veronica Neville voting against the motion

During the course of the debate on the topic, Cllr Coughlan said, “When works progressed to the Central Business District of Bandon, a suspension of pay-parking by Cork County Council would act as a gesture of goodwill to the rate-payers of the town and to the citizens of the town and hinterland who will be unavoidably inconvenienced.”

Cllr Coughlan added that free parking in Bishopstown and Clonakilty could become very attractive to even the most ardent Bandonian without this suspension.
