THE woman who died in a three-car accident on the N71 between Bandon and Innishannon on Monday has been named as 67-year-old Mary O’Leary from Dunmanway.

The mother of five was travelling to Cork Airport with her husband Donal en-route to a funeral in the UK.

Donal survived the collision and is now in a stable condition in Cork University Hospital (CUH).

The family are well known in the Dunmanway area.

The accident happened at about 6.30pm on Monday evening.

The female driver and only occupant of the second vehicle involved was also taken to CUH where she is expected to recover from her injuries.

A father and his teenage son travelling in the third vehicle were shocked but unhurt following the accident.

Gardaí in Bandon are appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact them on 023 885 2200.

The three cars involved were a black Nissan Qashqai reg 10-C, a grey Hyundai Santa Fe jeep reg 04-C and VW Touran reg 04-LK.
