Courtmacsherry-Timoleague 10k road race

The 8th Annual Courtmacsherry-Timoleague 10k road race will take place on Friday 26th June at 8pm. Officially measured, chip timed flat and fast coarse just 45 minutes from Cork city. The course runs along side the beautiful Courtmacsherry bay and if you want to set a personal best this is the course to do it on.

Call for extension of Wild Atlantic Way to include the coastal route from Clonakilty to Timoleague

CORK County Council has backed a motion calling for the route of the Wild Atlantic Way to be extended to include the coastal route from Clonakilty to Timoleague. Asking for support for the motion from Council colleagues, Sinn Fein councillor Paul Hayes highlighted the fact that the route currently bypasses this headland “of incredible natural beauty” where active communities work hard to promote the area.

Funding announced for footpath repairs

Huge crowds in Courtmac for the All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships

AN estimated 15,000 people thronged Courtmacsherry and Timoleague over the weekend for the All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships which took place in Broadstrand Bay.     It turned out to be a very successful event for rowing clubs from across West Cork too with GalleyFlash taking the senior men’s title and Myross taking the best adult crew accolade.

Government to investigate poor Saorview signal in West Cork

THE Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources under Minister Pat Rabbitte is to investigate the availability of the new national digital TV service Saorview in parts of rural West Cork. Concerns have been raised that the area between Dunmanway and Rosscarbery in particular suffers from very poor reception due to the large number of hills and valleys.

First swallows of the year spotted in West Cork

ONE swallow may not make a summer, but perhaps three do especially when they were all spotted in West Cork in the last few days. Black ice warning

MOTORISTS are being urged to take extra care on West Cork roads tonight as temperatures are set to plummet below zero once again. AA Roadwatch is reporting black ice on the N71 between Bandon and Clonakilty and also on the R600 between Clonakilty and Timoleague.

Gardaí seek help in cash probe

GARDAÍ in Bandon are appealing for the public’s assistance in tracing the rightful owner of more than €18,000 in cash that was handed in by a member of the public who found it lying by the roadside. The cash was found in a ditch by a man walking in the Kilbrittain area on Thursday afternoon.

Tragedy as 18-year-old woman is killed in road accident

AN 18-year-old woman has died following a tragic single vehicle accident near Clonakilty in the early hours of this morning. Kate Fleming from Barryshall near Timoleague was driving home in very foggy conditions when her white Toyota Land Cruiser crashed into the gable of a house at Keohane’s Cross, a sharp junction on the Clonakilty – Dunmanway Road.
