Juniors bow out of County Championship! Kilbrin have qualified for a county semi-final against Mayfield, having defeated Kilbree on Saturday evening. In Cloughduv, Kilbree started this affair well with two fine frees by Darragh Coakley. It took Kilbrin a little while to settle. Carbery Junior A Hurling Champions! Kilbree’s junior hurlers have joyfully been crowned Carbery Junior A hurling champions! This was the first occasion that Kilbree have contested this final. Winning the “Flyer Nyhan” at the first time of asking both historic and incredible! Three first half goals gave Kilbree an advantage throughout this game. U16 Hurlers Qualify for County Final St Catherine’s provided the opposition for Kilbree U16 hurlers in the U16 (B) county semi-final. This fixture took place in Passage West on Saturday night in damp windy conditions. Kilbree defeated Kilbrittain while St Catherine’s defeated Whitechurch to qualify for this county semi-final. With the County Final just two weeks away, many crews were hoping to secure the much-sought after qualification spots in the warm conditions on the day.
U14 County Semi-final A very young Kilbree U14 team contested the county semi-final on Monday evening, in Ballinure. It has been a great season for these girls. The sun shone on Union Hall for the third round of the Celtic Ross South West Coastal Yawl Rowing Association championship on Sunday, July 3rd last. With it all to play for in a number of categories, the day made for an exciting spectacle of rowing, which was not without its own twists and turns.
Junior Hurling It was a week of mixed fortunes for Kilbree’s junior hurlers. They beat Kilbrittain last week in the first round of the championship. This week they continued to compete in the county junior A league. On Wednesday evening they travelled to Ballinora to play the local side. The final score was Ballinora 2-20 to Kilbree’s 0-16. Following the postponement of the second round of the Celtic Ross Hotel SWCYRA championship on June 19th, it was rescheduled to take place on Sunday, June 26th. First 2016 SWCYRA Championship This year’s first SWYCRA Championship was held on Sunday, 12th June, in Glandore. Glandore is a great host to the races, with a prime viewing spot over the course. Races kicked off at 12pm where spectators enjoyed good weather conditions despite the water being a bit on the choppy side.
