SCENES from a major Belgian thriller called Broer (meaning ‘Brother’) were premiered in Bantry House recently. Starring Alison Doody, the film was shot on location in Bantry and West Cork during 2015 and went on release in Belgium on 20th January.
A NEW crime novel by Inchydoney-based husband and wife team Terry and Laura Tobin has just been launched in West Cork bookshops. Run is a fast-paced thriller that tells the dramatic love story of Shay and Ruby, their battle to escape a dangerous gangster and a roller-coaster trip that leads from London to Ireland and America.
A VAMPIRE movie filmed partly on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork has gone on general release around the world. The movie, Byzantium, directed by Neill Jordan and starring Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan tells the story of a pair of female vampires who wreak havoc on an unsuspecting English seaside town.
A touch of Tinseltown comes to Bantry this weekend with the arrival of Hollywood director Khashyar Darvich, the award winning director of Dalai Lama Renaissance.
WEST Cork filmmaker Pat Collins’ feature film Silence is screening in Bantry cinema this week Monday 8th -Thursday 11th October each evening at 7pm. Part of ‘Silence’ was shot in the Baltimore area and in Lough Hyne.
IF you fancy a shot at movie stardom get along to the Beacon Nite Club in Castletownbere on Wednesday, February 1st next where auditions for extras are being held for Hollywood director Neill Jordan’s latest movie Byzantium which is being filmed in Beara.
THE Irish premiere of Japanese movie Tamatama will take place at the community hall in Eyeries on Sunday, November 20th next. The movie was filmed in and around Eyeries earlier this year and up to 60 local people were involved in the production.
