DUNMANWAY based independent county councillor Declan Hurley has called on the Government to introduce emergency legislation to deal with the flooding crisis, which has ravaged the county in recent weeks. Cllr Hurley said, “The Government needs to introduce emergency legislation immediately to facilitate the cleaning, dredging and maintenance of rivers and waterways, which would override obstacles that are in place, which currently hinders or prevents this type of work.

LABOUR TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy has called for the introduction of autism-specific legislation. Deputy McCarthy said that the advances that have been made in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland on the issue, where autism-specific laws and national strategies have been put in place in recent years underlined the need for specific legislation in Ireland.
THE news that the AIB and the Bank of Ireland will not pass on an interest rate cut to citizens is galling, unacceptable and a precedent that cannot be allowed to continue. The Government and its members have made numerous calls for this situation to be reversed, yet the AIB have seen fit to ignore a request from the Taoiseach himself to pass on the cuts to the mortgage holders.
