The Annual General Meeting of GalleyFlash Rowing Club was held on Sunday, January 17th in Rathbarry Hall where a large crowd was in attendance. The committee for the forthcoming year was elected as follows:

LAST Saturday evening, November 8th, GalleyFlash Rowing Club were delighted to be joint recipients with COPE Clonakilty of a presentation from Rathbarry and District Vintage Club. Both groups received cheques for €2,500 from the Vintage Club, proceeds from their recent Vintage Run and Family Fun Day. The rowing club would again like to extend sincere thanks to the Vintage club for picking them as their beneficiaries.
On Saturday last, September 26th, GalleyFlash Rowing Club held its annual RunForestRun. With a new 5 mile multi terrain course making its debut for runners and the traditional 5km road route making a comeback for walkers, the course was in pristine condition in the glorious autumn sunshine.
On this coming Saturday, September 26th, GalleyFlash Rowing Club will host the annual Run Forest Run. Registration will open at 1pm at the boathouse in Kilkern Lake with action getting underway at 2pm. With a new long course set to debut this year incorporating road, forest and beach running, it promises to be an exciting afternoon of sporting action. An action packed weekend of rowing action awaited the 128 rowers and supporters of the Galley to Waterville, Co. Kerry, for the 2015 All Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships last weekend and not even the changeable weather could dampen the spirits of the club. In total the club picked up two gold in the U18 Ladies and U21 Ladies and two silver in the Senior Men and Cork Yawl Ladies.
A bumper weekend of rowing action in West Cork kicked off with the rescheduled County Finals in Broadstrand, Courtmacsherry on Saturday last, August 8th where crews from throughout East and West Cork contested for the prestigious County titles.
With two weeks respite from competitive action, rowers from GalleyFlash Rowing Club are looking forward to participating in the Cork County Coastal Rowing finals in Broadstrand, Courtmacsherry on Sunday, August 2nd. Celtic Ross SWCYRA Championship A blustery afternoon heralded the start of the 2015 Celtic Ross Sponsored SWCYRA Championship in Glandore on Sunday last. The windy conditions led to the cancellation of both U12 races on health and safety grounds. Credit is due to all other underage crews for handling their races with such rowing finesse, given the extremely unfavourable weather on the day.
Last weekend was a busy one for members of GalleyFlash Rowing Club with two regattas in two days. Following the cancellation of Ring regatta two weeks previous due to poor weather, the first regatta of the 2015 season was held earlier on Saturday last, May 16th, in Kilmacsimon. This was a good opportunity for crews to get some race practice under their belts before the commencement of the championship season
On Sunday last, April 19th, GalleyFlash Rowing Club held its annual Two Oar Challenge in Kilkern Lake. Over 40 crews took part on the day representing Kilmacsimon, Courtmacsherry, Ring, Myross, Rushbrooke, Whitegate and the host club GalleyFlash. The Pre Veteran Men’s category was won by Courtmacsherry, who were represented by Denis Griffin and Denis O’Donovan.
Ardfield Rathbarry Parish Party A party has been arranged for the Ardfield Rathbarry community to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of GalleyFlash Rowing Club. This is a party for everyone; rowers, former rowers, supporters, sponsors and the general community. After the euphoria on the All-Ireland it was back to the Celtic Ross Championship for the rowers of the SWCYRA clubs on last Sunday Sept 1st. For the GalleyFlash rowers it provided a final opportunity for the season to test themselves against the best of what the other West Cork clubs have to offer. AA route planner tells us that it’s 539km (335 miles in old money) from Kilkern Lake to Carnlough in County Antrim. This epic roadtrip was undertaken by over 90 of the rowers, parents and supporters of the GalleyFlash last weekend and when they made the return journey after the weekend they brought with them one All-Ireland Cup along with three sets of All-Ireland bronze medals.
It was back to championship action again last Sunday at Schull for the rowers of the GalleyFlash. For the clubs top performers of the season it was a case of business as usual as both Under 12 Ladies and the Under 18 continued their winning ways.
There may have been a break from championship action over the bank holiday weekend but there was no break in the hectic schedule for the rowers and supporters of the GalleyFlash. First up was Courtmacsherry regatta on Saturday afternoon, the club competed in five races at the event. There was victory for the Under 18 mixed crew with the Ladies coming home second in their race.
While the GalleyFlash have tasted success in many grades over the past decades, one category which they had never even entered was the Pre-Vet Mixed race.
