This year is no different with a day filled with spooky activities for little goblins, ancient ghouls and groovy ghosts! AND here it is, a celebration of the arts and wellbeing for everyone to share in West Cork’s contribution to World Mental Health Day and there’s so much going on it will be a “Week like this”. Inspirational speakers, drama performances, music, visual art, creative writing and drama workshops are all part of the region’s very own ‘Week like this’. West Cork Mental Health Forum has joined forces with the HSE
Reenascreena Community playgroup are organising events for the ladies of the locality in the coming weeks. These will include a cookery, beauty care and floral demonstration. To get these off to a healthy start they will host a course of GET FIT classes in the hall.
INTERNATIONAL Fairtrade Fortnight takes place once again from Monday 24th February to Sunday 9th March. The annual event raises awareness about Fairtrade and is a chance for communities in the developed world to get involved in Fairtrade-organised events.
CULTURE Night celebrations on Friday September 20th, cover all the bases across West Cork. For one special night everyone can enjoy the unique experience of Culture Night, a night of FREE entertainment, discovery and adventure. THE fourth Cork Craft Month was launched at the Old Mill in Kinsale by Alison Ospina of Green Wood Chairs and will take place in Cork city and county from August 8th -September 8th ; more than 50,000 visitors are expected to attend the event. Organised by Cork Craft and Design and supported by Cork County and City Enterprise Boards, Cork County Council, Fáilte Ireland and the Crafts Council
The August Programme of Events in Christ Church, Glandore begins with an Exhibition of Applique Pictures by Susannah Sindall and her students from Tuesday August 6th to Saturday 10th (inclusive). The exhibition is open daily from 11am-5pm with free admission. Susannah, an appliqué artist who lives near Skibbereen, works with very fine fabrics using them like paints to colour her images of the natural world.
Come along to the West Cork Arts Centre over the next few weeks to explore the current exhibition Processes of Change by Tomasz Madajczak and to enjoy workshops and performances for children from 0 to 7 years. NATIONAL Bike Week runs from June 15th to 23rd and there are a number of free events on in West Cork with Cycle Sense in Skibbereen and Ballydehob. Dig out a bike, pump the tyres, tweak the brakes, oil the chain and bring a helmet and hi-viz.

THE West Cork Arts Centre presents Young Makers an international exhibition of work by young contemporary artists. The exhibition opens on Friday, February 24th at 4.30pm. Young Makers is West Cork Arts Centre’s annual youth event for this year, the exhibition will tour Ireland through 2012. Exhibition dates: Saturday, February 25th to Friday, March 16th.
