A RURAL community near Drimoleague is in mourning following the death of a local child in a tragic farm accident. Three-year-old Fionn Mulhall was crushed by a mechanical digger in the yard of the family farm at Gurtnascreena about four miles west of Drimoleague just before 11am on Friday, August 1st.

CORK County Council has announced that more than €80,000 in funding is to be made available for the provision of new footpaths and repairs to existing ones across West Cork. GARDAÍ in Bantry are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred near Skibbereen. The accident is believed to have happened sometime between 10pm on Thursday, November 21st and 7am on Friday, November 22nd at Tooreen on the L4231 road which runs from the Skibbereen – Drimoleague road to Drinagh village.

AN 81-year-old Drimoleague man was airlifted to hospital after being badly gored by a bull at an incident on a farm near the West Cork town earlier today. The man, named locally as Noel Moxley, suffered massive chest injuries, leg and facial lacerations as a result of the incident.
THE refurbishment of Castledonovan Castle near Drimoleague is due for completion this summer, the OPW have confirmed. It is hoped that the castle will be open to members of the public in early June or July. Finance for the refurbishment was officially sanctioned by former minister Síle De Valera in 1991.

FOR the first week of February we celebrated Catholic Schools Week and on February 2nd we celebrated our grandparents, with a prayer service followed by the grandparents staying for tea and chat afterwards.
THE launch of the “Kingston Gathering 2013” took place at the Drimoleague Inn recently with the help of Eileen Kingston from Corks C103 radio station. THE Friends of Bantry General Hospital were recently presented with a cheque for €10,420.00, the proceeds of a very successful sponsored walk from Drimoleague to Bantry, which was organised by Eveisa Kingston back in May. The cheque was presented to the chairperson of the friends group, Declan Hurley at the hospital.
GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision on the main R586 Dunmanway – Bantry road at Clounties about two miles west of Dunmanway. The collision occurred between a lorry and a car at approximately 3.20pm.
