Summer Songbook singing workshops in Courtmacsherry

Government support for community shops, such as the one in Courtmacsherry, is a good first step

IRELAND South MEP Deirdre Clune has praised the Courtmacsherry Community Shop Committee members when she visited the premises on Friday last, April 8th. Many shops in rural areas and small villages have closed due to intensive price competition from large multiples and dwindling population bases. Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune says that government led incentives should be put in place to allow communities to reopen those shops.

Council to develop Courtmac seafront amenity

Welcome for plan to develop council sites for housing

WEST Cork Sinn Fein councillor Paul Hayes has welcomed plans from Cork County Council to develop a number of serviced sites for social housing. Sites around West Cork, including in Courtmacsherry, Schull, Skibbereen, Durrus and Bantry, had been bought by the Council at the height of the boom, and were intended to be sold as serviced sites to housing applicants looking to build their own homes.

FIVE rescued from speedboat off Old Head of Kinsale

THE Courtmacsherry all weather RNLI Lifeboat was called out at 6.40 pm yesterday evening (Monday) to go to the immediate aid of a 22 ft speedboat that got into difficulties and was taking in water off the Inner Barrell Rocks near the Old Head of Kinsale.

Courtmacsherry-Timoleague 10k road race

The 8th Annual Courtmacsherry-Timoleague 10k road race will take place on Friday 26th June at 8pm. Officially measured, chip timed flat and fast coarse just 45 minutes from Cork city. The course runs along side the beautiful Courtmacsherry bay and if you want to set a personal best this is the course to do it on.

Courtmac lifeboat rescues stricken fishing vessel

THE Courtmacsherry lifeboat was called out on Sunday morning to go to the aid of a 90ft fishing vessel that had got into difficulties while fishing 35 miles off the coast of Seven Heads in West Cork and sought assistance. The lifeboat with a crew of seven volunteers were underway within minutes and headed to the scene of the casualty which was due south of the Old Head of Kinsale,

Call for extension of Wild Atlantic Way to include the coastal route from Clonakilty to Timoleague

CORK County Council has backed a motion calling for the route of the Wild Atlantic Way to be extended to include the coastal route from Clonakilty to Timoleague. Asking for support for the motion from Council colleagues, Sinn Fein councillor Paul Hayes highlighted the fact that the route currently bypasses this headland “of incredible natural beauty” where active communities work hard to promote the area.

Lifeboat in callout to yacht in difficulties 20 miles off Old Head of Kinsale

THE Courtmacsherry RNLI Lifeboat has successfully completed its rescue of the Stricken 66 ft Belgium Yacht “Tom” that sought help at 3.20pm on Monday afternoon, 23-miles south east of Courtmacsherry Bay.   The Lifeboat took the casualty in tow at 4.20pm and later berthed the large Schooner at the Courtmacsherry Pier. The yacht was on passage from Newlin in Cornwall to Ireland when it’s engines failed.

Courtmacsherry RNLI seek memorabilia and memories for Lusitania Centenary exhibition

COURTMACSHERRY RNLI Lusitania Centenary Committee is appealing for artefacts, stories and memorabilia to be part of a major exhibition to commemorate the centenary of the sinking of the Lusitania off the Cork coast in 1915. They are also calling on any family members of those lost or saved in the Lusitania tragedy to contact them to share their stories, which will then be compiled and included in the exhibition.  

Lucky escape for two men in Courtmacsherry

TWO young men from Cork city were rescued by the Courtmacsherry Lifeboat in the early hours of Sunday morning after getting into difficulties in Courtmacsherry Harbour.   The lifeboat was called following a 999 call when two locals spotted the pair in difficulties in a small boat just off the pier at Courtmacsherry Harbour.

THE Courtmacsherry RNLI Lifeboat was called out on Saturday evening to go to the aid of a Yacht that got into difficulties off Courtmacsherry Harbour.   The all weather lifeboat with a crew of six were underway within minutes and proceeded to the area where the casuality had developed mechanical failure.
