AT a recent meeting of Cork County Council a motion a was submitted by Cllr Jerry Sullivan calling for the exemption of community not for profit organisations (such as childcare facilities) from commercial rates. €120,000 in capital funding has been awarded to a number of childcare facilites across West Cork. The facilities approved for funding include Happy Days Montessori Pre-School, Bantry (€42,693); Naíonra Droichead na Bandan, Bandon (€24,330); Friends Forever Childcare, Castletownbere (€22,696); The Haven Montessori School, Bandon (€17, 499); K’s Pre-School, Enniskeane (€10,555); Tir na Spraoi, Skibbereen (€4,280); and Timoleague Community Playschool and Afterschool Club (€624).
