POPULAR RTÉ broadcaster Bill O’Herlihy delivered the oration at this year’s Beal na mBlath Michael Collins commemoration. In a wide-ranging speech Mr O’Herlihy, who is a Fine Gael supporter, called for a “sea change” in Irish politics, advising that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil should join forces and attempt to truly live up to the ideals of Collins and hi colleagues when they founded the State.

SPEECHWRITERS for Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be in for ticking off after it emerged that the Fine Gael leader made something of an error during his historic speech delivered at Béal na mBláth last Sunday. He was the first serving Taoiseach to deliver the oration at the event which this year marked the 90th anniversary of the assassination of the first Commander in Chief of the Irish Army.

A NEW documentary is set to begin filming in West Cork this summer retracing the final hours of one of our most famous sons, revolutionary leader Michael Collins. Research on the production is already complete and filming will take place along the route that Collins took on August 22nd 1922.
A LIMERICK man managed to impale himself on the railings at the Michael Collins monument at Beál na mBláth on Saturday night. The freak accident happened at about 8pm when the man in his 30s decided to climb the monument but slipped and fell about 10 feet impaling his leg on the pointed railings that enclose the monument.
