BANTRY Bay Port Company is delighted to announce that the Port of Cork Maritime Collection, an exhibition of maritime themed paintings and models is now open at Bantry House, West Cork. The exhibition, which will run until 28th June, will showcase a selection of the Port’s historic maritime art pieces dating back from the 1800s. THE proposed sale of the contents of Bantry House which was set for October 21st next has been called off due to difficulties in obtaining a license on time. The sale of the iconic house’s contents was organised reluctantly by the owners ion order to meet financial obligations.

WEST Cork-based artist Pauline Agnew has teamed up with Sophie Shelswell-White of Bantry House to host a week of International mixed-media art workshops called ” A Space for Dreaming” in Bantry House this September. Over the past two years, Pauline, a graduate of the NCAD and DIT, has combined her background in art and technology, to create ground-breaking art Ecourses which receive rave reviews internationally.

BANTRY House & Garden has confirmed that its tapestry, “Le Colin Maillard” has been returned from the renowned Aubusson Museum in France where it was on loan for an international exhibition. The tapestry, one of a set of four was a wedding present for Marie Antoinette and the set has hung in Bantry House since the 1870s when the 2nd Earl of Bantry purchased them at Versailles.
PROMOTING cruise tours in West Cork took a significant boost recently with a visit from tour operators and cruise ship organisers to the region. The group visited the Skibbereen and Bantry area and the Beara Peninsula amongst others. Cllr Mary Hegarty, chairman of the Western Committee of Cork County Council, brought the Group to Bantry House & Garden where they received a private tour with Brigitte Shelswell-White.
AN exhibition of water colours by local artist Rober Brown is currently running in the Tea Room at Bantry House until October 6th next. Robert is a retired architect, a self- taught artist, he dabbled in water colours a little in past years, but took it up more seriously only in 2008, after moving to West Cork in 2005 from the UK.
SESKIN Montessori Children with parents and teachers Miss Mary, Miss Margaret and Miss Linda pictured at their walk in aid of Our Lady’s Childrens Hospital Crumlin. The walk took place at Bantry House and raised an impressive €1,432.
MOURNERS gathered this week to bid farewell to the owner of Bantry House, Egerton Shelswell-White. Mr Shelswell-White inherited Bantry House in 1978 and over the last three decades has redeveloped the well-known landmark into one of the country’s premier tourist attractions.

THE Heritage Council of Ireland has approved funding for a number of West Cork projects in Bantry, Kinsale and Allihies under their 2012 Grant Scheme. In Kinsale, the Council have approved funding for the preparation of a conservation plan for the restoration of the Napoleonic signal tower as a visitor centre and a panoramic viewing point.
TOP TV chef Richard Corrigan is set to wow diners with a one-night-only “pop-up” restaurant in beautiful Bantry House. ONE of the most exciting string quartets in Europe will be performing in Bantry House on Friday February 17th at 8pm to open West Cork Music‘s 2012 Concert Series. The Danish Quartet is a young, vibrant quartet, currently riding the crest of a wave after their victory in the London String Quartet Competition in 2010.

BANTRY House takes a starring role in a new cutting edge fashion film made by Off the Rails presenter Sonya Lennon. Sonya made the short film called Dais II in Bantry House with the help of Swiss-Irish filmmaker Christian Ammann.
