Sheep’s Head Producers Market AGM

ON Tuesday 15th March the AGM for the Sheep’s Head Producers Market was held at The Old Creamery Café, Kilcrohane. The current SHPM Steering Group, consisting of Lorna Finnegan, Gill Baggot, Jemima Wallis-Eade, Corina Thornton and David Johnson are joined by re-elected members Marilyn Wallis- Eade and Janette Armstrong, returning members Matt Mills and Niamh Egerton and new to the Steering Group Patrick Neill, all of whom were elected unopposed.

Kalbos named best cafe in Cork

by John Bohane Kalbos Cafe in Skibbereen town was recently crowned Best Cafe in Cork at the Irish Restaurant awards which were held in the Malton Hotel, Killarney. Kalbos Cafe were recognised for their beautiful produce and maintaining their consistently high standards which ensures they were deservedly crowned the Best Cafe in Cork. Siobhan Boyle, who is the proprietor at Kalbos Cafe was thrilled with their award.

€240m development programme launched for seafood sector

THE Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney has launched eight schemes to commence implementation of Ireland’s new €240 million EMFF Seafood Development Programme for the period up to 2020 and beyond, co-funded by the Exchequer and European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. This announcement follows approval of the Programme in December by Government and the European Commission.

Funding boost for local food markets

WEST Cork markets are being urged to apply for new funding for local food and artisian markets being made available through a new government scheme. The scheme is open to all rural towns and villages with populations of up to 10,000 and offers potential funding of between €5,000-10,000 for development of existing or start-up local food and artisan markets.
