Bord Iascaigh Mhara launch inaugural Seafood Sector Awards to celebrate the best in the Irish seafood sector
BORD Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the seafood development agency recently announced the inaugural BIM Seafood Sector Awards. The BIM Awards will seek to find the finest fishermen, fish farmers, processors and retailers in Ireland’s renowned seafood sector. The awards are open for entrants and the winners will be announced at a gala evening on November 17th in the Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin.
A COUNTYWIDE food strategy for Cork was launched at County Hall recently. “Taste Cork” is a unique initiative which aims to create a thriving food network for the region by linking and promoting producers, retailers, foodservice operators, and distributors. THE latest figures from Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) indicate 31,500 female lobsters were returned to sea in 2015 to breed as part of the Lobster V-notching Conservation Scheme. This is over double the number of female lobsters that were returned to sea in 2010.

THE Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney has launched eight schemes to commence implementation of Ireland’s new €240 million EMFF Seafood Development Programme for the period up to 2020 and beyond, co-funded by the Exchequer and European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. KERRY County Council has issued a new set of draft by-laws on possible locations for casual trading in Kenmare. Two options have been set forth to regulate casual trading in the area of the Town Square and the Town Park where casual trading is currently taking place.
