TEN podium finishes at the third Round Celtic Ross SWCYRA Championship signalled the GalleyFlash’s readiness for the forthcoming County Final.
In far from ideal rowing conditions the teams from the Galley turned in some fine performances in Castletownshend harbour.
First out of the blocks were the Veteran Ladies team of Breda Hayes, Bernie O’Donovan, Mary Collins and Joanne Taylor, their fine efforts won them a third place finish. This was quickly followed by another bronze medal display from the Senior Mixed crew of Niamh Hayes, Paul Deasy, Barry Hooper and Fiona Connolly.
Next out were the Under 12 Ladies crew of Alison Taylor, Laura Ahern, Anais O’Donovan and Sinead O’Connor.
With an outside lane and increasingly worsening rowing conditions the odds looked stacked against these young ladies, but in a true show of determination and skill they captured yet another bronze for the club.
Third also was the reward for the Under 16 Ladies crew of Sioned Miles, Eimear O’Keeffe, Zoë Taylor and Roisin O’Brien, as they continue to show improvement as the season progresses.
Blustery seas and an unfortunate lane draw denied the Under 12 crew of Gary Lombard, Daniel O’Brien, Ian O’Keeffe and Rory O’Connor of a medal winning finish.
Another spirited display from the U16 crew of John Carroll, Nicky O’Hea, Adam Ahern and Sean O’Connor followed before the clubs first second place finish of the day by the ever improving Under 14 Ladies crew of Claire McCarthy, Keri Ahern, Fiona Tobin and Aoife O’Keeffe.
The performance of next two crews on the water for the Galley, the PreVet Ladies; Ellen Mae Ahern, Donna Burke, Imelda O’Keeffe and Paula Keohane and the Under 18 Ladies; Marie Tobin, Catherine McCarthy, Ciara Rahilly and Danielle Hayes, ensured that they too would compete in the upcoming County finals.
The young U18 crew of Daniel O’Sullivan, Nicky O’Hea, Thomas Douglas and John Carroll continue to display what the legendary spirit of the GalleyFlash is all about, persevering despite the reward of immediate success.
This commitment is what turns a good team into a great one, their days of glory will certainly come.
It was podium finishes all the way for the rest of the Galley crews, an impressive third place finish for the Junior Ladies crew of MaryAnn McCarthy, Catherine McCarthy, Ciara Rahilly and Fiona Connolly.
Second place for the Senior Ladies: Niamh Hayes, Lisa Hayes, Donna Burke and Laura Connolly, after an epic battle with neighbours Ring.

The final galley crew of the day the Intermediate Men; Danny Hayes, Karl McCarthy, Mark O’Brien and Dave McCarthy turned on the style to bring home the silver in their race. Galley coxes at Castletownshend regatta ware Lisa, Niamh and Danny Hayes, Paddy and Micheal Harrington.
