The victorious Enniskeane camogie junior team at the Imperial League tournament in Co Kerry.

THE Enniskeane camogie junior team created history last weekend when they were named joint winners of the Imperial League one-day camogie tournament for junior camogie teams across Munster held in Co. Kerry.

The twenty girls travelled to Kilmoyley where their group consisted of Enniskeane, Sliabh Rua and Ennis side Éire Óg.

After beating their Cork and Clare rivals in the group stage the Enniskeane girls advanced to the final of the tournament where the home side, Clanmaurice, provided the opposition.

This was a tough, physical affair with heavy rain not helping the already tired bodies.

A solid Clanmaurice defence made it difficult for Enniskeane with the scores not coming as freely as previous games.

With little time to go a goal from Kate McCarthy saw the game go to an extra time period of two five minute segments with both teams level 1-3 to 1-3.

The extra period also refused to put any light between the teams with a point apiece leaving the scores level at 1-4 to 1-4.

In an unprecedented fashion, the decider then came down to 45s.

Each team selected three girls to take a 45 each.

However, both teams converted two from three, leaving everyone at odds with what to do next.

It was decided to divide the title between the sides with each taking the trophy for six months each.

It was a unique end to a spectacular day of camogie and all credit is due to the girls for their determination down to the very end.
