THE bunting is out the tournament is starting and the sense of anticipation is palpable across West Cork as the Boys in Green embark on their first euro campaign since 1988.

Bars, businesses and homes acorss West Cork are proudly displaying the green, white and gold and hoping that the Irish team can pull a few surprises in Poland and the Ukraine.

John Buckley from the West Cork League says that the team’s chances are better than a lot of people think.

“I think we will get out of the group stage,” he told West Cork Times, “it wont be easy but I think we’ll get a draw with Croatia in the first game, Spain will beat us but we will beat Italy and that will see us into the next round. If we can get that far then anything can happen”.

The lads forming the “Jaws Tour” from Dunmanway will be hoping John is right.

The 10 fans, all from the Dunmanway area and former players with Dunmanway Town jetted out to Munich where they picked up two campervans and headed on to Poznan in Poland for Ireland’s first game.

Keep an eye out for the “Jaws Tour” flag at the Ireland games on TV.
