THE third annual Tragumna Island Swim will take place on Saturday, June 16th.
This year’s swim is in aid of improvements to the Tragumna area and local charities.
There will be music, face painting and a BBQ on the day.
Since the first swim in 2010 the committee have been able to train 22 people in the AED lifesaver programme and purchase a defibrillator for the area.
Charities that benefited from last year’s swim included Cancer Connect, Skibbereen Day Care Centre and Cope and the Blue flag beach is currently under going work to improve the area.
Last year’s swim proved a huge success with an increased entry in both the junior swim and the main swim around the island (800metres).
This year the committee has introduced an intermediate swim that will see competitors swim to the peak of the island and back to the shore.
This swim is designed to accommodate swimmers up to the age of 16.
The junior swim at 4.30pm will be a short safe swim across the bay and on entry participants will receive a Tragumna Island swim cap and a certificate of achievement.
All swimmers who enter and complete the intermediate (5pm) and island course swims (5.30pm) will be presented with a memento of their achievement in the form of a Tragumna Island Swim t-shirt kindly sponsored by local businesses.
Safety as always is paramount and the emergency services will be on hand on the day.
Following the event it’s up to the local Skibbereen Eagle for a great night of ceol agus craic.
Entertainment will be provided by Noel O’ Donovan.
Sponsorship cards are available from The Skibbereen Eagle Bar, Tragumna or Baby Hannah’s Bar, Skibbereen.
