Carmel was recently awarded a lifetime achievement award, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion, for her role in supporting small and medium sized businesses in South Wales during a 30-year career.
Carmel, now a fluent Welsh speaker, is director of Ross Carbery, a company that promotes enterprise skills and development and is the first Irish person to receive the award.
“I am really thrilled and honoured to have been recognised for this award, news of which came as a huge surprise to me.
“This award is thanks to all the wonderful people and businesses that I have worked with in Wales over the years,” she said.
Carmel moved to Wales in 1975 when she was just 21and began her career in enterprise development in 1980 joining the local enterprise board Antur Teifi.
