THERE was a large turnout in Bandon on Easter Sunday to hear Gerry Adams TD deliver the oration in St Patrick’s Cemetery on the 96th anniversary of the 1916 Rising.
More than 400 people were in attendance to listen to the Sinn Fein President and to honour those who fought in the rising at the republican plot in the local graveyard.
During his speech Mr Adams called for a no vote in the upcoming referendum and accused the main political parties of betraying the ideals if the 1916 rising.
Speaking after the event local Sinn Féin councillor Rachel McCarthy said, “We were delighted that Gerry Adams came to Bandon this year.
“I would like to thank all of the local Sinn Féin organization for all the effort they have put in over the last few weeks in preparation for the day.
“I would also thank the people of West Cork for turning out in the hundreds for the commemoration”.
