A NEW documentary is set to begin filming in West Cork this summer retracing the final hours of one of our most famous sons, revolutionary leader Michael Collins.
Research on the production is already complete and filming will take place along the route that Collins took on August 22nd 1922.
It was on that day that Collins was ambushed and killed by anti-treaty IRA men at Beal na mBláth near Crookstown.
The film will trace Collins’ journey from Cork’s Imperial Hotel and on to Macroom, Bandon, Clonakilty, Rosscarbery and Skibbereen.
The film by Maria Young and Tim Crowley marks the 90th anniversary of his death.
