SEAN Murray Fashions, Skibbereen has launched a special Christmas campaign to bring a loved one home for Christmas.

The Skibbereen retailer is rewarding shoppers in the run up to Christmas with the chance to enter a competition to bring a long lost love or family member home for Christmas.

The “Fly Me Home for Christmas” Campaign which will run from September to November, will see anyone who shops in Sean Murray’s nominate to fly a loved one of their choice home for the Christmas season.

The idea for the campaign came about last Christmas when Murray saw a huge increase in people, parents in particular coming in earlier than usual to shop and send Christmas presents off to their children who are living abroad, many of whom would spend Christmas without any family around them.

Recent statistics show a huge increase in the numbers of Irish people emigrating with an average of 238 departing Ireland every day in the twelve months up to April of this year, equating to one person leaving the country on a permanent basis every seven minutes.

These figures represent the highest number of people leaving Irish shores since the Famine.

Sean Murray said, “West Cork has been witnessing the highest level of emigration since the famine in recent times and every day we hear of another young person from the area packing their bags to find work which has huge implications for the future of our region.

“We decided to run the ‘Fly Me Home for Christmas’ campaign to give someone the opportunity to come home and spend some time with their loved ones at a time of year that is really difficult to be away from home.

“The competition is not just for those who have recently emigrated, it is for anyone who wants to bring a loved one home regardless of how long they have been gone for.”

He continued, “I am sure that it will be really difficult to choose a winner from the many worthy entries we will receive and that is why we will have the public decide on who is to be brought home.”

Those who spend more than €25 in store can enter the competition by filling out a nomination form until the end of October.

Sean Murray’s will then choose five of the most deserving entries with the public deciding the winner through Sean Murray’s Facebook page HERE.

The winner’s flight will be paid for by Sean Murray’s up to the value of €1,000 with the winner flown home on time for Christmas.
