THE rowing season may be over with a month yet last weekend was another busy one for the members and supporters of the GalleyFlash.
The club had earlier been announced as one of the beneficiaries of the Ardfield Summer Festival and last Friday at the presentation night the club received a very welcome cheque for €1,900 as their share of the profits.
The timing of this much need boost to the clubs coffers could not have been more opportune as the club has just been granted planning for their proposed redevelopment of its Kilkern Lake facility.
So while the winter season is normally a quiet time for the club, this year it will see a multitude of activities by all involved.
Not only the physical construction and renovation work but also a focused fundraising campaign.
The annual fundraisers, the third “Fun Run by the Sea” and the fourth “Rowathon” will be supplemented by a number of other events over the next six months, watch this space for more details.
On Saturday night over 50 club members attend the SWCYRA Annual Awards dinner.
Top winners for the club at the awards were the Senior Ladies Crew of Niamh Hayes, Lisa Hayes, Donna Burke and Laura Connolly who with cox Danny Hayes were crowned West Cork Champions 2012.
Other medal winners on the night were the Under 12 Ladies crew, the Under 14 Ladies, Senior Mixed, Junior Ladies, Intermediate Men, Junior Men and the Senior Men.
A fine haul of silverware making its way back to the Galley to wrap up a historic season.
