The Southern Bar won the pub category.

WHAT was probably the worst summer in living memory didn’t stop the proud people of Dunmanway putting their best effort into the second annual Floral Display Competition organised by Dunmanway Enterprise Network.

Following on from the success of last year’s competition the judges were glad to see some new entries and a wonderful array of colourful displays throughout the town.

This year’s overall prize went to Ger & Mary Galvin of “Galvin’s on the Green”, owners of the Southern Bar and Galvin’s Bed & Breakfast.

The judge was very impressed with the colours and intensity of their displays, which have added greatly to the overall impression of the Green area of town.

The judge was highly impressed with our public flower displays and duly awarded this year’s Community Award to Dunmanway Community Council.

In the residential category, first prize went to Peadar and Maura Dineen, Sackville Street, second was Maisy Dwyer of Park Road and in third place were Charlie and Eileen McCarthy of Castle Street.

The commercial honours were won by The Square Shopping Centre, second was Glentree Furniture and joint third were Healy’s Supervalu and Woodstock.

In the public house category The Southern Bar won first prize, in second place O’Murchu’s and third The Arch Bar.

An awards ceremony will be held later in October and certificates of merit will also be presented on the night.

Dunmanway Enterprise Network wish to thank all who went to great effort to keep Dunmanway looking its best and we hope for a more kinder summer next year for “The Gathering” when they hope to see many from the Dunmanway diaspora return home.
